Workplace Trauma
ONLINE TRAUMA-INFORMED CAREER COUNSELING AND INDIVIDUAL THERAPY FOR ADULTS IN OHIO AND FLORIDA
Do you dread going into work each day?
You don’t have to go through this alone. Together we can process distressing experiences in the workplace or an overall toxic work culture, helping you to heal and empowering you to reclaim your confidence at work.
You may be:
A first responder or healthcare worker during the pandemic who isn’t feeling “back to normal” at all
A care professional like a teacher, nurse, or counselor who is consistently putting others first and even bearing witness to other’s trauma on a daily basis
Autistic or an ADHDer who has been navigating work environments throughout life that are not designed to meet your needs
Someone who experienced discrimination or harassment at work due to their sexuality, race, gender, age, or other identity
Someone who has dealt with challenging relationships with co-workers or a manager that has shaken your confidence, but you don’t know who to turn to and fear retaliation if you speak up
What is workplace trauma?
Workplace trauma could result from any distressing or harmful experience encountered in a work setting. This can include bullying, harassment, discrimination, accidents, or even chronic stress from a toxic work environment.
These experiences aren't just "tough days at the office" - they can really affect your wellbeing, making it hard to sleep, focus, or feel confident at work. You might even notice the impact spilling into your personal life and relationships.
Here are some more examples of adverse work-related experiences that could result in trauma:
-
Repeated hostile behaviors from colleagues or supervisors intended to intimidate, belittle, or undermine a person’s confidence and performance.
-
Unwanted, persistent conduct (verbal, physical, or digital) that creates an intimidating or hostile work environment.
-
Unfair treatment based on identity markers such as race, gender, age, disability, or religion, impacting opportunities and workplace safety.
-
Workplace structures and policies that disadvantage certain groups by reinforcing historical inequities and barriers to advancement.
-
Emotional distress from indirect exposure to others’ trauma, common in caregiving, social services, and crisis-response roles.
-
Work expectations and norms designed around neurotypical ways of thinking and working, which marginalize neurodivergent employees.
-
Stress, grief, and burnout from pandemic-related disruptions, health risks, isolation, and shifting work conditions.
-
Emotional and organizational harm from ineffective, unethical, or toxic management styles.
-
The emotional impact of job loss or witnessing colleagues lose their jobs, often paired with survivor’s guilt or instability fears.
-
Harm caused when an organization fails to prevent, address, or take responsibility for misconduct, especially after it’s been reported.
-
Psychological and financial strain from prolonged joblessness, often compounded by loss of identity and routine.
-
Chronic stress from sustained excessive workloads and unrealistic expectations, leading to physical and emotional exhaustion.
